Overall, an incredibly successful day of diving deep into the HPE discipline with the HPE teachers in the TEP by enacting the dispositions of connection-making, critical scrutiny, and self-reflection.Ī big thank you to Academy leaders, Marcia Devlin AM, PhD, GAICD and Claire Brown PhD, for allowing us the time and space to work with such talented and dedicated HPE educators from a wide variety of school sectors and settings to enhance the status of teaching across Victoria.Īlso, mention has to be made of the many other divisions in the Academy who all work tirelessly in the background to ensure that we Master Teachers can focus on delivering the highest quality professional learning possible in the TEP.The voice bursts through the high-pitched ringing in her ears, alerting her to the fact that she’s currently standing in the middle of the kitchen, phone still clutched in her sweaty palm, unmoving. Incredibly thankful to the panel members for providing such rich discussion and provocations on HPE teacher identity, the impact that the Covid-19 lockdowns had on teaching HPE, the importance of student voice and agency in the discipline, a consideration of how we might better co-construct assessment with other teachers and with students, and the importance of taking an activist stance as a HPE educator. Joining me on the panel was Carla Luguetti from Victoria University, Annie Kay from Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, and Hilary Shelton from ACHPER Victoria.

This Activist Approach is grounded in feminist theory and critical pedagogies and has been developed through work with marginalised populations (e.g., girls, people of colour, and people in poverty) in the last 25 years. This approach incorporates young people's interests, motivation, and learning needs by maintaining youth voice as integral and broadening youths’ perspectives on what is possible. The Activist Approach is a process that offers such an avenue to connect with learners. This session will discuss the Activist Approach to Physical Activity.

The paper explores how action research can support the co-creation of inclusive climates in sports clubs. In Change Makers, we deliberately work with sports club leaders, volunteers, facilitators, and community groups in order to identify and transform structural barriers to sport participation.
